About Jim Matthews
A lifelong resident of Pennsylvania, Jim Matthews has developed a well-earned reputation as a trusted public servant and respected local businessman.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy and president of the Keegan Mortgage Corporation, Jim was popularly elected twice to serve on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. As Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Jim's keen business sense and commitment to efficient government has paid dividends. He has saved taxpayers millions of dollars and has repeatedly earned the nation's highest credit rating for his county. In addition, Jim has overseen the creation of a state-of-the-art homeland security program.
Prior to serving as Commissioner, Jim followed his military service with an appointment to the Veterans Administration. He oversaw the approval of hundreds of millions of dollars annually in home loans to veterans, helping them to achieve the American dream. Now as Commissioner, Jim oversees the administration of a half-billion dollar annual budget and 3,700 employees. Jim has also been quite successful in stimulating the revitalization of towns and boroughs, in preserving the farming economy, and in marketing his country's rich heritage.
Jim and Karen, his wife of 36 years, have raised four children and have three young grandchildren.
